Although around five-sevenths of the planet's surface is covered in water, only around 3% of it is fresh water – and two-thirds of this is locked up as permanent ice. While the amount of available water has remained substantially the same as at any time since the end of the last ice age, the number of people sharing it – and the scale of their demands – has however risen dramatically.
Aside from conventional infrastructure, sewerage and supply projects, for an increasingly thirsty planet, the contribution of purification technologies will become ever-more significant over the coming years. Compelled by a myriad of drivers, the development and deployment of enhanced filtration, sanitisation and desalination technology represents a sector widely tipped for future growth.
Located in one of the most arid regions, Israel has always treated water efficiency as a national priority and through intensive research and development has provided innovative solutions that address global water scarcity challenges. The country’s field-proven technology, long standing expertise and its government’s commitment to a national water program (Israel NEWTech) have resulted in Israel being hailed as the “Silicon Valley” of water technology. Kinrot’s position is further strengthened by its strategic partnership with Mekorot, Israel’s National Water Company. With over 3000 water installations, Mekorot provides the ultimate beta site for developing and testing new and innovative water technologies.
